About Us

We envisage a society where comprehensive healthcare and preventive services are recognized and guaranteed as a fundamental right for all, regardless of identity, socioeconomic status, or location.

Building a Healthier America

Citizens Health Initiative was founded on a simple but urgent belief: that where you live, how much you earn, or who you are should never determine whether you get the care you need.

We started as a small coalition of public health advocates, researchers, and community organizers who were tired of watching preventable illness take hold in communities that had been systematically underserved. We knew that changing individual outcomes required changing the systems that produced them.

Today, we work, partnering with communities, institutions, and policymakers to advance health equity through programs, research, and advocacy that create lasting, structural change.

Mission

Our mission is to advance health equity through the combination of community-based initiatives, evidence-based research, and persistent policy advocacy.

Champion Healthcare as a Right

We actively promote the fundamental right to comprehensive healthcare and essential preventive services, focusing our efforts on reaching underserved communities that face systemic barriers to access and quality care.

Lead with Evidence

We conduct and utilize evidence-based research to illuminate systemic issues, inform public health policies, and shape effective advocacy strategies that lead to real, system-level change.

Drive Systemic Change

We design and implement community-based preventive health initiatives that give people the tools and knowledge they need to take control of their well-being, strengthening the entire community from within.

Empower Communities

We engage in bold policy advocacy at the local, state, and national levels to strengthen our health systems, secure sustainable financing, and advance equitable health outcomes for all.
